BFR Training
For Fitness Professionals
Add blood flow restriction training to your practice. Get your clients stronger. Earn more doing it.
BFR works. Here’s what the research shows.
The reasons to add it now:
Your clients are already the right candidates. Women going through hormonal changes, Joint-limited adults, injury recovery, older clients managing load intolerance, athletes in deload — BFR fits the populations most trainers see every day.
The barrier to entry is low. Light weights or exercise tubing, a set of bands, a structured protocol. No equipment overhaul. No need to change your exercise programming. Easy to get started.
It solves your hardest programming problem. Clients in midlife or beyond who have aged out of traditional programming, hit a plateau, or are returning from injury have somewhere to go. BFR gives you a tool for the sessions that used to stump you.
Want the full science?
Blood flow restriction training produces real strength and muscle gains at 20-30% of one-rep max — the same outcome as high-load training, backed by thousands of studies1. It also places far less stress on joints and soft tissue. For midlife and (older) adults, people managing joint pain, and clients returning from injury, BFR delivers results that heavy loading often can't.

Why Business Professionals Trust Coach Seli
Ashley Selman, MA, CSCS, has spent more than 30 years as a strength coach, working with elite athletes including Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Brandi Chastain, collegiate programs at Stanford University and the University of Oregon, and individuals at every fitness level. She was named one of the Top 100 Trainers in the U.S. by Men's Journal and founded Evolution Trainers in Mountain View, California, voted the number one health club in Silicon Valley.
After a hip replacement at 43, Ashley spent years trying to rebuild muscle. She knew exactly what she was doing, and it wasn’t working. That’s when she discovered BFR training — a method she knew from physical therapy settings but had never applied to her own programming. The results surprised her. She regained strength she hadn’t felt in over a decade, with less pain, more durability, and better endurance. And it all came much faster than expected. In her words, “It was profound. It completely changed how I thought about training.”
She's bringing BFR education to the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and will present the course Coaching Blood Flow Restriction Strength Training: The Future of Fitness. Seli Strength is the program she built around BFR training, first for her own clients and now for the fitness professionals who want to bring it to theirs.
Common Questions
-
Yes, when applied correctly, BFR is safe. It's widely used in physical therapy and clinical rehabilitation settings worldwide. The bands apply partial blood flow restriction — slowing venous outflow while arterial inflow continues. This is not full occlusion and does not cut off circulation. The research record on safety is strong, and side effects are rare and typically mild. BFR Contraindications do exist; a full list is in the next question and included in the 7-Day Quick Start materials.
-
BFR is not appropriate for everyone. Do not apply BFR with clients who have any of the following:
Severe hypertension (untreated)
Active deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
Blood clotting disorders
Severe peripheral vascular disease
Pregnancy
Active lymphedema, infections, open wounds, or tumors in the affected limb (BFR may be used on other limbs for systemic benefits)
Physician-advised restrictions on vigorous exercise
Recent serious illness, injury, or surgery without physician clearance
-
Yes. No. Maybe. BFR training requires using BFR bands — the compression is what creates the training effect. Some trainers start with a set or 2 for their practice and use them with clients who are new to the method. Once clients are bought in, many want their own. At that point, they can purchase through your affiliate link.

No formal certification is required to use BFR with clients, but Ashley strongly recommends getting some BFR education before working with clients in a fitness setting. The free 7-Day BFR Quick Start covers protocols, client screening, and programming basics to get you started. Ashley has also developed a two-part ACE continuing education course on BFR for fitness professionals, coming late July. If you're signed up for our emails, you'll hear from us when it's live.

You can sign up as part of the free 7-Day Quick Start — no extra steps, no cost. You'll get a personal affiliate link, and when a client purchases BFR bands through it, you earn a substantial affiliate commission. If they join a Seli Strength coaching program, you earn recurring commissions on their monthly subscription too. Payouts are handled through Wise.

Seli Strength uses B3 Sciences BFR bands — pneumatic air-chamber bands worn on the arms and legs. Ashley has tested the major BFR bands on the market and uses B3 exclusively. She chose them because the flexible air-chamber design makes them comfortable, safe, and genuinely simple to use correctly. Enrolled fitness professionals receive a generous professional discount on B3 bands through the 7-Day Quick Start Program.
